folder General

World’s Biggest Garage Sale are proud to be working with Advanced Metal Recyclers (AMR) on resource recovery of metals and electronic items, advancing to a circular economy. Having operated in the Brisbane Eastern suburbs and Brisbane Southside suburbs for 20 year, AMR offers an array of metal recycling services (including eWaste) while also giving back to the community that supports them.

Through the circular work we do at World’s Biggest Garage Sale, there is inevitably a small amount that needs to be recycled and that’s where AMR comes in. They ensure that our metals and electronics (which contain a variety of precious metals) have continued life. With eWaste on the rise – Each year, approximately 50 million tonnes (worth 62.5 billion US dollars) of electronic and electrical waste (e-waste) are discarded –  it’s more important than ever that we’re aware of end of life options for the products we all use everyday.

Metal recycling facilities are like mines above ground, rich with resources that can be continuously re-used at a fraction of the cost to mine and refine metals from virgin ore. It also consumes a lot less energy and lessens the demand for natural resources.

AMR also operates as a Collection Refund Point for the container deposit scheme, a program that aims to reduce the number of beverage containers that litter our environment by providing a 10 cent refund for each eligible container returned to one of our refund points.

Janelle, owner operator of AMR said “Since starting the Container Deposit Scheme service we’ve seen a rise in community drop-offs of metal and eWaste. Rather than taking these products to waste transfer stations, more and more people are dropping them into us and coming to see us for spare parts for whitegoods and other items they have at home, so they can carry out the repairs themselves! There’s a grassroots movement happening with regards to the circular economy!”

If you have any metal scrap or electronic waste (such as desktop computers, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, mobile phones and gaming consoles) reach out to AMR today to assist.
